Pregnancy Changes Foot Size

by Dr. Vijay Patel
Recent research supports the long-held notion by women that pregnancy changes your feet.  Based upon my experience in clinical practice, these changes in women contribute to incidence of low back pain; sciatic pain; hip, knee and leg pain.  I have found that early intervention utilizing specific exercises in combination with custom orthotic devices and supportive footwear dramatically decreases the likelihood of these complaints. These regimens may also reduce future incidence of musculoskeletal complaints that have arisen following pregnancy in many women. This advice is true whether you are just  considering starting a family, currently pregnant, or have had a past pregnancy.
